Denis Caromel, Founder and CEO




Denis has been working for more than 20 years as a researcher in parallel, concurrent and distributed programming, cloud computing, workload automation, applications and infrastructure automation for Inria and University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. He is holding a PhD degree in computer science in distributed and parallel computing and an MBA from HEC Business School. He has written numerous research papers and books, and directed PhD students. Denis acted as keynote speaker at several major conferences (MDM, DAPSYS, CGW, Shanghai CCGrid 2009, IEEE ICCP'09, ICPADS 2009 in Hong Kong, Devoxx in Paris, Open Stack Summit in Santa Clara), and as invited conference speaker on Clouds at Expo Universal in Shanghai. At Inria Denis was leading a team of 45 persons where ActiveEon initial Open Source technology was developed.
Denis is an entrepreneur, and worked during 2 years in the United States in a startup company in California. He co-founded ActiveEon in 2007 together with his team as a spinoff of Inria in Sophia-Antipolis, creating synergies between the Inria 45-persons R&D team and the startup. Since 2011, he is ActiveEon CEO and currently manages an international company of 25 people located in France, UK, Africa, Bulgaria, and United States. Denis vision and strategy is to reinforce ActiveEon position as a major player of digital transformation and automation in the cloud. ActiveEon team works in agile mode, and Denis prefers his team to work in holacracy.
In his spare time, Denis is a sailboat skipper, practices scuba diving, competition skiing, marathon running and triathlon. He is also certified leisure airplane and hang-glider pilot. Denis also teaches ski and sailing to children.


Brian Amedro, CTO




Brian joined ActiveEon in 2012 after having worked as a research engineer and project manager in INRIA Sophia Antipolis. He has a PhD degree in computer science that he defended during his work in INRIA, CNRS and I3S Lab. Brian also has a strong teaching experience (5 years in the University of Sophia Antipolis) of parallel and distributed programming and java programming for master degree students.
Brian’s main fields of expertise are cloud architectures: IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-service) and SaaS (Software-as-a-service), as well as parallel and distributed systems, high performance applications and SPMD (single program, multiple data).


Francois Tournesac, CSO




François joined ActiveEon in 2015, and he is currently leading the revenue growth and internationalization of the company. He has 20 years of sales leadership and business development experience in cloud computing, datacenters, networking, security, software and services.
Previously, he worked as Vice President of sales and business development of Telco Systems. While creating a strategic intent, he was able to double the revenue every year in EMEA. He built and implement a plan based on Channel development and PoC at Tier 1 Service Providers in EMEA to target Carrier Ethernet and SDN/NFV solution for mobile and Cloud Service Provider. In 2000, after five years in Singapore with 3Com responsible of the APAC development especially China, Francois Tournesac accepted the opportunity to setup the European sales and support office in Paris of a start-up: Atrica, headquartered in the Silicon Valley. As Vice President of sales & EMEA General Manager, he built a strategic relationship with France Telecom group and won multiple awards of Carrier Ethernet Metro Ethernet Forum services for Orange. He also won the Colt 33 cities Carrier Ethernet RFP in 2008, which became the largest Carrier Ethernet network in Europe.
With more than 20 years’ experience in technologies development, Francois Tournesac participated in various breakthroughs in the ICT directly involved in digital transformation and data networking creation in Europe, Asia Pacific and USA.
François Tournesac holds an Executive MBA from HEC with a major in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from Babson College. He holds a MA of Economy and Strategy in Telecommunications from Arts & Métiers, a MS in Telecommunications from Citcom and a BS in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from ESME Sudria in Paris. He is an active in professional and his technical associations include:

  • Member of the OpenStack community since 2014
  • Metro Ethernet Forum marketing co-chair from 2008 to 2014,
  • Paris X ENST lecture on Carrier Ethernet and Cloud since 2000,
  • Active participation in interoperability lab tests.

Francois is passionate by change and building customer-focus sales strategies for technology start-ups. He has a strong personal interest in corporate social responsibility programs. Within ActiveEon, François is leading worldwide sales, business growth of the company and go-to-market and partnership strategy. He has contributed to the opening of ActiveEon offices in the Silicon Valley and Bulgaria.
He is a former Navigation Officer of the French Marine Nationale.
